You Too Can Dance
After watching couples dance on a cruise, we decided to learn some of the Latin dances before we went on another cruise. We were hesitant but the offer of a free lesson so we could evaluate whether this is something we would enjoy made the decision. After one lesson, continuing with dance became a "no brainer." All the instructors at the studio are warm and go out of the way to make you feel comfortable and part of the family. We have met some wonderful people at the studio and look forward to our dance nights. There are group lessons and practice sessions available in addition to taking lessons, which helps reinforce what you have learned. I am so grateful we started dancing and owe our success to the studio for their methods and encouragement.

Dancing - Fun, Fantastic, and great therapy!

Dance lessons from the staff at this studio have been a great experience. I'll admit that I was "pushed" into it by my daughters...they said I needed a break from the stress of home care for my wife. It certainly provided that along with many other benefits; My doctor was very, very, happy with the improvements in my general health, being able to associate with a great group of people, and the joy of dancing.

Dancing at Arthur Murray

Dancing at Arthur Murray in the Sterling Heights Studio is great. I have learned so much and have such a wonderful time there. When I originally signed up for a few lessons I never expected it to turn out the way it did. I not only learned how to dance ballroom but also met many great people, increased my social circle, and improved my confidence. The talented and professional staff helped me to slow down and learn to trust others. Most important is the way they make dancing easy, fun and enjoyable. There were times when I came to the studio stressed out or tired from work but ended up dancing and laughing my stressors away and leaving in a positive and happy mood. I truly recommend dancing to anyone willing to try something new, fun, or adventurous.

My Experience

Newly alone, I embarked on a journey of self-discovery that would ultimately lead me to the world of ballroom dancing. Inspired by Al Pacino’s performance in “Scent of a Woman”, I turned to the people I felt certain would be able to show me how to capture that moment.

The most compelling aspect of my journey has been and continues to be a realization of self-confidence and the courage to face my fears and do it anyway! Stepping onto a beautiful ballroom floor, hearing the music, feeling the lead and following effortlessly!!! How can this be anything other than a surreal uplifting of spirit!

What began as a chance adventure has transformed this my world and taught me what is most important in life-listening and dancing with all my heart.

Serendipity

According to the Oxford Dictionary, serendipity is defined as “the faculty of making happy and unexpected discoveries by accident”. This is what happened to me 8 years ago when I walked into the Arthur Murray Studio in Sterling Heights. I was looking for an enjoyable form of aerobic exercise. When I signed up for the introductory lesson, I did not know that my life was about to dramatically change for the better and that so many serendipitous experiences were coming my way.

About 30 seconds into that lesson, I knew that I had happened upon something very special. I knew I had found something that went way beyond exercise. What I found at Arthur Murray was a dream-come-true list of benefits: a chance to be creative and move to glorious music; an opportunity to perform; a place to make treasured friendships with people of all ages; and yes, a way to experience aerobic exercise that is much more fun than walking on a treadmill.

Ballroom dancing is in my blood. When I can’t dance anymore, I’ll have my memories of all those magical, serendipitous moments to relive and cherish for the rest of my life. There is always something new to learn, something new to discover about ballroom dancing at Arthur Murray. I know that more serendipity is coming my way!
